Alvertus M. Warren

May 12, 1917 — June 26, 2014

Alvertus M. Warren, 97, of Kearney, Nebraska, former Overton resident, passed away peacefully at Mt. Carmel Home Keen’s Memorial in Kearney, on Thursday, June 26, 2014. She was born May 12, 1917, in Gresham, Nebraska, to Norman (Pop) and Burneice (Mom) Robertson Moomey. She moved with her family to the Overton area from Polk, Nebraska in 1928. Alvertus graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1934 and the Hastings School of Commerce. Alvertus spent five years in Washington, D.C. working for the government during WWII. On February 14, 1947, she married Ross A. “Red” Warren in Kearney. Three children were blessed to this marriage; Gayle, Jana and Jeff. She had an in-home dance studio and later was employed for 21 years at Plectron Corporation in Overton as a secretary. She was a 75 year member of the United Methodist Church in Overton, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington for 10 years. Music was always a big part of her life as she was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s (Women’s Barbershop Chorus) for many years, directed the Senior Citizen Kitchen Band, and entertained everywhere with her unique style of “tickling the ivories” including playing at nursing homes well into her nineties. Some fun facts about our Mom are: she loved being silly, had an infectious laugh, encouraged her children in all their dreams, she did not like sweet pickles, she tried to make her grandson eat dandelion greens, she loved sing-alongs and dancing and she loved her family, friends and God. She will be sorely missed. Survivors include her 3 children, Gayle Taubenheim, Jana Burkey and Jeff Warren and wife Betty, all of Kearney. Grandchildren, Brad Jacoby, Tiffany Jacoby, Jamie Bollwitt all of Kearney, and Jenny Lathrop of Highlands Ranch, CO, Kevin Taubenheim of Hastings, MN, and Lisa Roy of Selmer, TN. 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Doris Moomey, many nieces and nephews and special friend, Paul Beckman. Alvertus was preceded in death by her husband Red in 2004, her parents, 2 brothers, Mervil and Bill Moomey, and one son-in-law, Tom Taubenheim. Funeral Services will be Monday, June 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney, Nebraska at 4500 Linden Drive, with Reverend Gary Main officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 29, 2014, from 3-5 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Overton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Overton Veterans Memorial, Overton Alumni Scholarship Fund or Overton Methodist Church. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
