Marion L. Saunders, 83, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Monday June 9, 2014, at the Lexington Regional Health Center.
She was born February 26, 1931, at Ellison Bay, Wisconsin, to Matthew and Anna (Koessel) Daubner.
Marion grew up in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin and graduated from Gibralter High School in Fish Creek Wisconsin in 1949. She was united in marriage to Douglas Jerome Saunders on April 29, 1950, in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin. The couple resided in Oakland, California, Streamwood, Illinois, and Cozad, Nebraska. In 1979 they moved to Illinois and returned to Nebraska, to Lexington, in 1991. Douglas preceded her in death on January 8, 1994.
Marion enjoyed crafts, bowling, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who always had a great sense of humor (after raising 8 children and being a Cubs fan). She will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.
Marion is survived by five sons; Jerome “J.R.” and wife Peggy Saunders of Lexington, Nebraska; Matt Saunders of Lexington, Nebraska; Alan and wife Diane Saunders of Lexington, Nebraska; David Saunders of Lexington, Nebraska; Scott and wife Cheri Saunders of Lexington, Nebraska; three daughters; Cheryl Saunders of Palatine, Illinois; Lois and husband Randy Holbein of Gothenburg, Nebraska; and, Toni Saunders of Lexington, Nebraska; two sisters; Shirley LaRouche of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; and, Sandra Griffy of Crossville, Tennessee; 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Elaine Mickelson and brother-in-law, Clifford Mickelson; son-in-law, Fred Eberhardt; daughter-in-law, Donna Saunders; great-grandson, Liam Martin; also, brothers-in-law, Jim Griffy and Leo "Buzz" LaRouche.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Jorge Canela, officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 13, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the St. Ann’s Cemetery in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
