Marjorie Christine Potter

Marjorie Christine Potter, 95, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington. She was born June 17, 1918, east of Sumner, Nebraska, to William and Mary (Drake) Lashley. Marjorie attended District #14 Trappers Grove School and then Sumner High School. In November of 1929, she was baptized and became a member of the United Brethren Church in Miller. In 1953, she later transferred her membership to the Overton Methodist Church. Marjorie was united in marriage to Meredith A. Potter on September 5, 1937, in Kearney, Nebraska by the United Brethren minister. Three sons were blessed to this marriage; Roger, James and Allen. Meredith and Marjorie went to Wyoming where they worked for several months and then returned to Overton. She had never lived out of Dawson County except for the few months in Wyoming. Marjorie was always active in the Overton Methodist Church as well as the UMW. She made many baby quilts for their mission projects. She was also a member of the Tuesday A.M. Coffee Club, the Rural Club and Rebekah Lodge. She loved to sew, quilt, crochet, knit, gardening and canning the fruits of her labor and sharing with family and friends. Marjorie always enjoyed working and worked at Parkway Café in Lexington as well as the Overton Café. She spent 25 years at Plectron in Overton. Marjorie lived in her own home in Overton until December of 2013, when she needed more care and moved to Park Avenue Estates in Lexington. She had only been a resident of Plum Creek Healthcare Community for the past few weeks until her death. She will always be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who loved her family and her faith above all else. She is survived by two sons; Roger (Gayleen) Potter of Lincoln, Nebraska; and, Allen (Maryann) Potter of Overton, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Judy Potter of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren; Bradley Potter of Lincoln, Nebraska; Gregory and wife Julie Potter of Lincoln, Nebraska; Patricia and husband Mike Eggert of Kearney, Nebraska; Mike and wife Kathy Potter of Overton, Nebraska; and Jorie Sterne of Chicago, Illinois; four great-grandchildren; Abby Potter, Kaylenn Swenson; and, Chase and Ava Potter; as well as extended family and friends. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Meredith; son, James; grandson, Jeff; two brothers; Ralph and Floyd; and, three sisters, Ethel, Sylva and Opal. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 2, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Overton Methodist Church with Reverend Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, June 1, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Overton Methodist Church.
