Ileen H. Leibhart, 91, of North Platte, Nebraska, formerly of Callaway, Nebraska, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Nebraska. She resided in Callaway Good Samaritan Care Center for 3 ½ years and moved to North Platte recently to Premiere Estates.
She was born to Charles and Mae (Naylor) Hammans in Otis, Colorado on September 8, 1916. She and her family homesteaded, built and lived in a sod home near Otis until she was 8 years old. Then they returned to Callaway, Nebraska, after many days of traveling with a horse and wagon. She finished her school years in Callaway and graduated in 1934. She attended college in Kearney and taught school for 5 years.
Ileen was united in marriage to June Leibhart on August 27, 1938, at Dunning, Nebraska, and celebrated 67 years of marriage until her husband’s death in 2005.
Ileen enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, and flowers. She was a wonderful cook and always enjoyed a good hot cup of coffee. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and always gave more than she had. She also loved reciting poems with you or alone and singing her favorite song, “You are my Sunshine”, which she sang with her family the night before she passed away. She will be so truly missed.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Callaway, Nebraska.
Survivors include two sons: Gary (Josie) Leibhart of Callaway, Nebraska
Darrell (Kathy) Leibhart of Mullen, Nebraska
Two daughters: Deanna (Don) Harriman of Montrose, Colorado
Karen (Garry) Dodge of North Platte, Nebraska
Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Ileen was preceded in death by her husband, June; her brother, Clifford, her parents and two grandsons, Dennis and Duane.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 1, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Callaway, Nebraska with Reverend Dale Coates officiating.
Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2008, from 4-6 p.m. at Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway.
