Elsie H. Debban, 95, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
She was born October 23, 1912, in the Bertrand/Smithfield area to Peter Herman “Otto” and Mathilda (Ross) Meyer. She was baptized on December 1, 1912, at Hope Lutheran Church in Smithfield, Nebraska and was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Elwood.
Elsie attended school at Salem Lutheran Parochial School and helped Nellie Michel with housekeeping and babysitting. She was united in marriage to Marvin F. Debban on May 12, 1934, at Salem Lutheran Church in Elwood, Nebraska. Two children were blessed to this marriage, LaDonna and Kermit.
Elsie and Marvin moved to Lexington in 1942. Elsie was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who always had an open door for family and friends and so loved and cherished their visits. Elsie displayed family pictures on her walls and each picture was dated. She enjoyed watching the “goings on” at Eustis Body Shop, reading, canning, gardening, flowers, and growing raspberries. She made homemade lye soap and her dill pickles were the best in three counties. She enjoyed growing cactus and raising chickens.
Her faith was a #1 priority in her life. She never missed The Lutheran Hour and attending church at Trinity Lutheran nourished her with the spiritual food she needed for the week. A wonderful lady has passed on to be with her Loving Lord and will be so very missed by all she left behind.
