Charlotte P. Selk, 93, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Lexington Regional Health Center.
She was born January 14, 1921, in Hershey, Nebraska, to Clarence and Ethel (Evans) Reiter. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1939. Following graduation she worked at Lexington State Bank.
Charlotte was united in marriage to Virgil H. Selk, of Cozad, Nebraska, on September 10, 1944, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. The couple moved to Cozad in 1948, where she was employed as the payroll clerk at Allied Mills. In 1952, she opened her own business known as “Selk’s Youth Shop” which she operated for fifteen years until her health forced her to quit and sell the business. In 1962, Peggy Lee joined the family through adoption. The family returned to Lexington in 1965.
Charlotte was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing Bridge. She was a long-time faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Grace Circle and taught Sunday school for over 20 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Ballheim of Hastings, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Matthew and wife Loraina Ballheim of Hastings, Nebraska; and, Melissa and husband Alfred Carvolho of Lincoln, Nebraska; five great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Breeden of Cozad, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; grandson, Michael; brother, Lee Reiter; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Clarence Taylor; brother-in-law, Jim Breeden; nephew; Bill Breeden and cousin, Doris Bowden.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Caroline Vickery officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 17, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
