Anna Marie Brennan, 98, of Kearney, formerly of Overton, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Village in Kearney.
She was born November 7, 1915, in Eddyville, Nebraska, to Francis and Mary Veronica (Neville) McTygue. She grew up in the Eddyville area and graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1936. She then went on to further her education at Kearney State College Teacher’s College. She taught for 5 years in the Eddyville area.
Anna Marie was united in marriage to Thomas Brennan on December 31, 1940, in Eddyville. Three children were blessed to this marriage; Kathleen, Patricia and Thomas.
Anna Marie was a faithful member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she served on the Altar Society, played organ for many funerals, masses and weddings. She was also accomplished on the piano. Music played a large role in her life. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, canning, and being active in her Extension Club. Anna Marie loved dogs and always had a four-legged friend throughout the years.
Family was a huge part of Anna Marie’s life. She was the bookkeeper for the family farming operation for many years. She was the Overton librarian and worked the polls for voter registration. She loved having family over and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is survived by two daughters; Kathleen Winnat of Clovis, California; Patricia Brennan and husband Jim Lemmer of Bloomington, Minnesota; one son, Thomas and wife Sherry Brennan of Overton, Nebraska; five grandchildren; Steven Winnat of Irvine, California; Pamela and husband Chad Pricolo of Fresno, California; Christina Brennan and fiancé Hunter Bailey of Washington, DC; Brandi and husband Eric Krakowski of Omaha, Nebraska; and, James and wife Heather Brennan of Overton, Nebraska; eight great-grandchildren; Anna, Blair and Riley Brennan; Aidan and Nicholas Krakowski; and, Ethan, Emma and Ellery Pricolo; two brothers; James McTygue of Eddyville, Nebraska; and, Michael McTygue of Sacramento, California; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Anna Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; three brothers, Patrick, Francis and Robert, and three sisters, Catherine, Loretta and Patricia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 24, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton, Nebraska with Father Jose Chavez celebrating.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014, from 5-6 p.m. with Wake Service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Burial will be in the Elm Creek Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to Holy Rosary Catholic Church or Overton Fire & Rescue.
