Dennis Lee Mathes, 69, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Lexington Regional Health Center. He was born March 8, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, the only child of Jessica Marie Mathes. He lived in the Ozarks until he was 9 years old. He then moved to Texas as a younger man and worked at various jobs. When he moved to North Platte he went to work for ABC Auto Salvage in North Platte, where he worked for 25 years. He also helped manage the Americana Properties for his aunt. He enjoyed the challenges of the upkeep of the houses and apartments. His mother suffered a heart attack around 1973, and soon after needed to be on dialysis. She was in the North Platte Care Center and this is where he met the love of his life, Linda Jessen. The couple dated for three months, and then married January 31, 1986, in North Platte, Nebraska. Dennis and Linda both suffered from health issues and moved to Park Avenue Estates in Lexington. He loved Linda very much and helped her out as much as he could, taking care of her and driving her to dialysis. He will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife, Linda of Lexington, Nebraska; one cousin; Karen Sue and husband Floyd White of Mission, Texas; aunt, Audrey and the late John Mathes of Grant, Nebraska; aunt, Jean and the late Lester Mathes of Flat River, Missouri; two brothers-in-law; Chris and wife Wendy Jessen of Roseburg, Oregon; Cliff and wife Karen Jessen of Apple Valley, California; one sister-in-law, Karen and husband Larry Schneider of Yuma, Colorado; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his mother, mother-in-law and father-in-law, and other family members. The family has honored Dennis’s wishes for cremation. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Monday, February 24, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Megan Morrow officiating. Register Book Signing and visiting with family will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014, from 3-5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Lexington. Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church or the Kidney Foundation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
