Lois M. Nordberg, 87, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
She was born September 15, 1920, at home on a farm in southern Indiana, to Frank and Maye (Prince) Colvin. She lived on the farm until she was 4 years old, when the family moved to a small town near Indianapolis. Through the years Lois lived in several smaller communities surrounding Indianapolis. She always had a love of learning and music. She took piano lessons and, eventually, played in the school orchestra, accompanied singing groups and was the pianist at church.
Lois graduated from high school in the Indianapolis area and then went on to attend Butler University and a business college. When she was 22, she joined the U.S.O. during WWII. It was during this time that Lois moved to California and became an Insurance Broker, later Lois went home to visit, her mother became ill, and she decided to stay.
She renewed her friendship with Don Nordberg and it was during this time the couple became engaged. They were married August 29, 1945, at Indianapolis, Indiana. Two daughters were born to this union; Jill & Jan. Lois worked and helped put Don through Optometry School. The family moved to Lexington in 1951. This was when Don opened his Optometry business.
Lois was so much fun; she enjoyed entertaining and traveling, planning vacations for the family, reading (at times she was reading 5 books), dancing, playing bridge, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and movies. She was loved and adored by her family and will be greatly missed.
Lois was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a past member and Guardian Secretary of Job’s Daughters, a former Brownie Leader, Eastern Star and P.E.O., Lexington Chapter FS.
