Dorothy May Carr, 99, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington.
She was born May 18, 1914, near Buffalo, Nebraska in Custer County, to William J. and Effie M. (Wood) Koehn. Dorothy attended school in Lexington and graduated from Cozad High School. She was united in marriage to Robert Carr on March 7, 1934, in Norton, Kansas. Three children were born to this union; Jeanne, Richard and Linda.
Dorothy was always active during her life and loved to play cards, put jigsaw puzzles together, flower gardens, crafts, photo albums, reading, dancing, family get-togethers and volunteering at the care home with the Red Cross.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington where she served as a past Deacon and Buffalo Grove Presbyterian Church. She was also a past member of the Lamplighters and VFW Auxiliary. Dorothy raised her three nephews, Steven, Roger, and Robert Adams after the death of her sister Lois.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Linda Sweeley of Rowlett, Texas; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; nephews; Steven Adams; and, Robert and wife Diane Adams of Lexington, Nebraska; one brother, Alan Koehn of Lexington, Nebraska; two sisters; Maxine Feddersen of Lexington, Nebraska; and, Carolyn Koehn of Vancouver, Washington; many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Harrol Hopkins; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Ruth Carr; son-in-law, Tex Sweeley; brothers; Ivan Earl, Ernie, Milo, and Clarence; sisters; Glenrose and Lois; and one nephew, Roger Adams.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Ethel Fox, C.L.P. and Reverend Caroline Vickery co-officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
