Violet A. “Vi” Henry, 84, of Callaway, Nebraska, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Callaway Good Samaritan Center in Callaway.
She was born October 4, 1923, north of Cozad, Nebraska, to Martin and Alma (Fickenscher) Block.
Vi was a graduate of Gothenburg High School and then attended Teacher’s College at Greeley, Colorado. She moved back to Gothenburg where she taught in many country schools between Gothenburg and Cozad. It was during this time she met her future husband, Donald. They were married on October 1, 1947, at Gothenburg, Nebraska. After their marriage they moved to Callaway, Nebraska, near Stop Table. Three daughters were blessed to this union; Alane, Joann and Carol.
She was a partner with Donald on the farm, but for a time, worked at Good Samaritan Center in the kitchen. She baked homemade cinnamon rolls, which the staff and residents truly enjoyed.
Religion was a driving force in Vi’s life. She was a founding member of the Callaway Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She enjoyed baking and china painting. She belonged to a China Painting club and painted a lamp for each of the grandchildren when they were confirmed.
Vi’s life revolved around her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be so very missed.
Survivors include her three daughters: Alane (James) Patterson of Stilwell, Kansas
Joann (Mike) Pandorf of Callaway, Nebraska
