Lester Daniel "Dan" Wolfe

Lester Daniel “Dan” Wolfe, 78, of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Lexington Regional Health Center. He was born February 25, 1935, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Lester and Laura (Hoadley) Wolfe. Dan attended District #3 rural school, and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1952. Dan married Shirley Collicott on May 28, 1954, they had four children. He lived in Oxford, Grand Island, Ravenna in addition to Lexington. Dan served in the Nebraska National Guard for six years. He farmed briefly and worked as a factory foreman, but spent most of his life working in sales. For two years he enjoyed weighing cars at the Platte Valley Speedway. In his youth Dan raced stock cars and boxed. Later, he enjoyed golf, loved to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s events, and watched sports. He had a beautiful singing voice, and sang at many weddings, funerals, and church services across the state. Dan was a people person who could always find a friend; he told memorable stories and he always had a joke to share. He was generous, loving, funny, and kind. Dan is survived by his wife Shirley of Johnson Lake; daughter Laurie Hervert (Clark) of Ord; son, Russ Wolfe (Kelly) of Kearney; daughter, Kathy Wolfe (Richard Barnes) of Lincoln; six grandchildren (Ami and Chad Nichols of Omaha, Adam and Jen Hervert of Pierce, Kyle and Ashley Wolfe of Broken Bow, Mitchell and Elizabeth Hervert of Liberty, MO, Caitlin and Jeff Schwartz of Cedar Rapids, and Alex Wolfe of Lincoln); three step-grandchildren (Samantha Lindahl and Carl of Norfolk, Alex Jones of Norfolk, and Allen Jones); four great-grandchildren (Jaylin Wiese, Libby Nichols, Emmett Hervert, and Ryker Wolfe) and three step-great-grandchildren (Brianna, Will and Charlotte Lindahl); siblings Dean Wolfe and Judy of Lincoln; Dorthy Phillippi of Elwood; Dave Wolfe and Joyce of Overton; Dell Wolfe and Linda of Lexington; Donna Myer and Rich of Central City; Dixie Roberts and Gregg of Grand Island; and Debby Suhr and Rocky of Lexington; sister-in-law Carol Collicott of McCook, brother-in-law Dick Collicott of Culbertson, and stepmother-in-law Alice Ruppert of McCook; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Laura Wolfe; infant daughter, Amy; brother Don Wolfe, sister Delores Latter and three infant siblings; mother-in-law, Pauline Dodson; father-in-law, Earl Collicott; stepfather-in-law, Delmar Dodson, sister-in-law, Bonnie (Maloley) Neff; brothers-in-law Denny Latter, Don Philippi, and Zickie Maloley. Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 13, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Reverend Dr. Dyton Owen officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 12, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Memorials, in lieu of flowers please, are suggested to the Chapel of the Lake at Johnson Lake or Operation Santa Claus. It was Dan’s wishes his body be cremated following the funeral service. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting with arrangements.
