Barbara M. Peterson, 67, of Arthur, Nebraska, former Lexington resident, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Lexington Regional Health Center.
She was born December 14, 1946, in Wethersfield, Connecticut, to Robert and Helen (Fontaine) Hogle. She graduated from Wethersfield High School with the class of 1964, and went onto further her education at Business College in Wethersfield.
Barbara was united in marriage to Robert Edwards in 1966, in Wethersfield. One daughter was born to this union; Dawne. The marriage ended in divorce. Barb and Dawne settled in Lexington in 1973, where Barb started working at the Lexington Community Hospital and later Tri-County Hospital as a Ward Clerk, ambulance driver, medical record transcriptionist and anywhere else she was needed. She left the hospital in 1995, when she moved to Arthur, Nebraska and went to work at the Long Branch Bar. This is where she met the love of her life, Jake Peterson. They were married June 19, 2008, in Arthur. She welcomed Jake’s daughter, Rori into the family.
Barb was diagnosed in March of 2013, with cancer. She fought hard until the end and will leave a legacy of love and friendship to all who knew her.
She was always active during her life with golfing, bowling, crossword puzzles, cross-stitching, traveling, her beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers and Denver Bronco football teams.
Barb loved being with her grandchildren; following Trevor’s motocross, Dakota’s football and wrestling, and Rori’s high school rodeos. She never knew a stranger and had a smile that would light up a room. She will always be missed.
She is survived by her husband Jake of Arthur, Nebraska; daughter, Dawne Hernandez of Lexington, Nebraska; grandsons, Trevor Hallan and Dakota Hernandez both of Lexington; stepdaughter, Rori (Steve) Seitler of Ogallala, Nebraska; and one step-granddaughter, Haidyn Seitler. Also surviving Barb are lifetime friends from Lexington and Arthur.
Preceding Barb in death were her parents and two brothers, Gilbert and Kenneth Hogle.
It was Barb’s wishes that her body be cremated and her family has honored those wishes.
