Lester Irving Hildenbrandt

Lester Irving Hildenbrandt, 94, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington. He was born November 16, 1918, in Hygiene, Colorado, to George William and Pearl MayBelle (Moody) Hildenbrandt. Lester grew up in the Hygiene/Platteville areas of Colorado and graduated high school in 1936 from Platteville High School. Lester married Arvella Anthony on June 4, 1944, in Lexington. The couple raised four children; George, Ron, Pam, and Bill. Lester and Arvella farmed in Platteville, Colorado until moving to the Lexington area in 1950 where they farmed until retirement. Lester and Arvella were well-known for their beautiful Iris gardens. Lester was a member of the Dawson County Iris Society, Pioneer Rose Society, American Iris Society, Aril Society International, American Hosta Society, American Peony Society, as well as the American Philatelic Society. He was also a faithful and active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington where he served as a Trustee. Lester was a gentleman who cared deeply for his community, his family and his friends. He unselfishly donated his body to science. He is survived by his children; George Hildenbrandt of Slatington, Pennsylvania and wife Carolee Hildenbrandt of Flushing, New York; Ron Hildenbrandt of Tyler, Texas; Bill Hildenbrandt and wife Mary Hildenbrandt of Westchester, Illinois; and, daughter, Pam Currin of Kathleen, Georgia; three siblings; Ruth Duggan, Everett Hildenbrandt, and Faith Clarke all of Colorado; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends. Lester was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arvella and, daughter-in-law, Jan Hildenbrandt. A Family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with Lester’s siblings in Colorado. Memorials are suggested to the Dawson County Parent/Child Center or the Donor’s Choice. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
