Dorris Eleanore Chubbuck, 96, of Salina, Kansas, former Lexington resident, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013, at Holiday Resort in Salina.
Dorris was born March 11, 1917, in Crab Orchard, Nebraska, to William Walter and Kathrine Ann (Penkava) Street. She was a 1936 graduate of Callaway High School in Callaway, Nebraska and attended Kearney State Teacher’s College for Normal Training. She was united in marriage to Floyd John Chubbuck on December 23, 1939, in Alma, Nebraska. Four children were blessed to this marriage; Gordon, Sondra, Virginia and Bill.
The couple moved to Alliance, Nebraska where Dorris taught school for 3 years in Stapleton; then to Blaine County near Dunning where she also taught rural school. When the family moved to Lexington in 1946, she worked at the Lexington Community Hospital as a Nurses’ Aide on the night shift, so she could be home with her children during the day. After the kids were in school she returned to her love of teaching. She taught for 16 years in Dawson County at Districts #17, 25, 18 & 3. She then retired completely.
Dorris was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lexington where she was a 50+ year member of the Mercury Club and Elizabeth Circle, she was also a member of the Lexington Christian Women’s Club, the Tri-County Hospital Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Dorris was a joy to spend time with and enjoyed being active in the community, her neighborhood and church. She will be so very missed.
She is survived by two daughters; Sondra (Don) Schmitt of Salina, Kansas; Virginia (Dave) Conner of Parker, Colorado; one son, Bill (Gail) Chubbuck of Hales Corners, Wisconsin; and one daughter-in-law, Marianne (Mickey) Chubbuck of St. Louis, Missouri; as well as sister-in-law, Doris Street of Callaway, Nebraska; she is also survived by six grandchildren; Jeananne (Fred) Corn; Jeff (Kelly Schmitt); Michael (Gretchen) Conner; Brad (Lela) Conner; Michael (Maggie) Chubbuck and Steven Chubbuck; she has eleven great-grandchildren; Joshua, Christopher, Suzanna, and Zachary Conner; Katelyn, Noah and Joshua Corn; Logan and Ashley Schmitt; Edie Conner and Gracie Chubbuck.
Dorris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd in 1999; son, Gordon in October of 2013, of St. Louis; and, two brothers, Gordon & Claris Street.
Funeral Services will be Monday, November 4, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Reverend Dyton Owen officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 3, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
