Darold D. Hibbs, age 66, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013,at his home in Lincoln following a battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
He was born on February 2, 1947, to Oren Dean and Helen Louise (Binning) Hibbs, in Lexington, Nebraska. He was a 1965 graduate of Lexington High School.
Darold served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 as a gunner in a heavy artillery battery. He also served in the Army Reserve as a chaplain’s assistant while attending and eventually graduating from Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio. He married Eunice Schutz on November 18, 1989, in Kearney, Nebraska.
When younger, Darold worked at a variety of jobs to include carpentry work at Back to the Bible and at Child Evangelism Fellowship headquarters in Switzerland. He volunteered for Campus Crusade for Christ and the Waikiki Beach Chaplaincy in Hawaii.
Darold enjoyed restoring antique cars, hot rod shows and plein air painting.
After employment as a graphic artist at Morris Press in Kearney, Nebraska, he moved with his new bride to Lincoln working in the maintenance department of Gold’s Galleria for almost 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Hibbs of Lincoln; their daughter Phoebe Noel Hibbs of Lincoln who was adopted from Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, China; sister, Nancy Filkin and husband Robert of Columbus, Nebraska; brother Dwayne Hibbs and wife Jill of Kearney, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Funeral Services will be Monday, October 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Berean Bible Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 20, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
