Carroll M. Sherman, 96, of Kearney, Nebraska, former Lexington resident, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Mother Hull Home in Kearney.
She was born September 6, 1917, in Dayton, Iowa, to G.F. and M. Adell (Draper) Berry. She was a 1936 graduate of Gilbert High School in Gilbert, Iowa. Carroll worked as a nanny for 2 years in Iowa prior to moving to Lexington in 1939. When she moved to Lexington she worked for a year at the Lexington Community Hospital.
Carroll was married to Stanley Sherman on September 15, 1940, in Lexington. Two sons were blessed to this marriage; Barry and Bruce. Carroll went to work for Lloyd Kain at the Lexington Clipper Newspaper in 1955, while she and Stanley farmed until 1964, when they moved to Lexington and purchased the Texaco Bulk Plant. She did the books for the Bulk Plant and they sold the business in 1970. For two years, 1970-1972, the couple enjoyed being house parents at Kearney State College. They returned to Lexington in 1972, when Carroll returned to the newspaper until retiring in 1985. In 1996, the couple moved to Kearney.
Carroll was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lexington, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school. She was a past member of the Spring Creek Extension Club and loved to play bridge and belonged to several bridge groups. She enjoyed her time in Kearney and being close to her sons. She will be so very missed.
Survivors include one son, Barry Sherman of Kearney, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Sean (Andrea) Sherman of Lee Summit, Missouri; Bradley (Julie) Sherman of Aurora, Colorado; and, Stacey Sherman of Grain Valley, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren; Brooke, Grace, Claire, Zach, Mattie, Sophia and Brennan.
Carroll was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley in 2003; son Bruce, in 2000; and, three brothers; Leonard, Kyle and Elton Berry.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Rev. Dr. Dyton Owen officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
