Larry F. Reed, 77, of rural Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013, at his home. He was born January 2, 1936, in Lexington to John Frank and Gladys B. (Courter) Reed. Larry attended school at Lexington and joined the Army Reserves on May 7, 1957, he was honorably discharged on May 6, 1963. During his growing up years he was involved in 4-H where he showed champion sheep and calves, earning many accolades at Ak-Sar-Ben and the Nebraska State Fair. Larry was united in marriage to Arlene McCandless on November 30, 1958, in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this marriage; Jim, Kathy and Mike. Larry’s life was the farm. He farmed his entire life until his health forced him to slow down. He enjoyed being with his family and was so proud when his granddaughters decided to show calves through their 4-H groups. In his spare time he liked to fish. Larry will be so missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of nearly 55 years; Arlene of rural Lexington; sons, Jim (TeAnne) Reed of Lexington, Nebraska; Mike (Lana) Reed of Columbus, Nebraska; daughter, Kathy (Scott) Thomsen of Wahoo, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Jenna (J.P.) Roberts of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; Jamie Reed and fiancé Colby Slonecker of Brady, Nebraska; Travis Reed (Kensie Lyon) of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Sarah (Matt) Walsh of Omaha, Nebraska; Tyler Reed and fiancé Alexis Arlt and their son, Jude of Columbus, Nebraska; Alison Thomsen of Wahoo, Nebraska; and, Kyle Reed and his fiancé Iana Luft and their daughter, Addison of Columbus, Nebraska; two brothers, Dave (Joy) Reed of Kearney, Nebraska; Dennis (Barb) Reed of Ft. Collins, Colorado; two sisters, Shirley Hill and Linda Bonner of Kearney, Nebraska;, sister-in-law, Gail Reed of Cozad, Nebraska; aunt, Della Mae Courter of Lexington, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack and one brother-in-law, Troy Hill. Funeral Services will be Monday, September 30, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Reverend Caroline Vickery and Pastor Dr. Dyton Owen co-officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 29, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Hewitt Cemetery north of Lexington. Memorials are suggested to Dawson County 4-H or the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
