Mary Jane Brestel, 82, of Callaway, Nebraska, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the Callaway Good Life Center.
Mary Jane Brestel was born March 11, 1931, to Roy Winslow & Alma Ruth (Vincent) Lichtenberger.
She attended school in Callaway, Nebraska, graduating Valedictorian of her 1948 class. She attended two semesters at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, majoring in agriculture.
She married Eugene Brestel on June 24, 1950 and raised three children: Jacquelyn, Jonathon and Thomas. After the children were grown, she went to work in dietary service as a cook at the Callaway Public School for 15 years retiring in 1999.
She also served as Secretary for the Callaway School Alumni Association and was very active in the St. Boniface Church of Callaway.
Most of Mary Jane’s life was spent in Callaway. She was known for her beautiful roses and she loved to sew for her family and make quilts. Mary Jane enjoyed baking and was a wonderful cook. Her greatest joy was her family, especially the grandchildren.
Mary Jane is survived by children: Jacquelyn (Bill) Bailey of Waldorf, Maryland, Jonathon (Sherry) Brestel of Broken Bow, Nebraska & Thomas (Cindi) Brestel of Holdrege, Nebraska; Six grandchildren: Tim (Melissa) Brestel, Bethany (Brock) Shultz, Amanda (Jacob) Scofield, Ryan Brestel, Megan (Josh) Burkle & Emily Brestel; Two great-granddaughters: Kaiya and Samara Burkle.
Sisters: Betty Sergun, Gladys (Irwin) Spangler & Shirley Pierce; One Brother: Bill (Dee) Lichtenberger and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, parents Roy and Alma, infant brother George and brothers-in-law Albert Sergun and Allyn Pierce.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, August 30, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Callaway Community Center with Reverend Antony Thekkekara.
Rosary will be held one hour prior to Mass at the Callaway Community Center.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral home in Callaway, Nebraska.
Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway.
Memorials are suggested to the Callaway Good Life Center or Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg.
