Richard Carl “Andy” Anderson, 88, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Lexington Regional Health Center.
He was born March 8, 1925, in Rising City, Nebraska, to Carl and Francis Anderson. Richard was 1943 graduate of Valparaiso High School. Following graduation Richard joined the U.S. Navy.
Richard (Andy) was united in marriage to Ruth Evelyn Stevens on August 3, 1947, in Lincoln. Three children were born to this marriage: Cindy, Richard, and Michael.
The couple lived in Arvada, Colorado, Gretna & Lincoln, Nebraska, and retired to Lexington in 1991. Richard worked for Western Electric/AT&T for 37 years.
Andy loved to watch kids play sports, especially his family. He coached kids’ baseball for 11 years plus, was a catcher for the Lincoln Baseball team, played basketball for Western Electric, where he worked. He was the mayor of Gretna, Nebraska, and enjoyed talking about the Navy transport ship - the U.S.S. Oxford, where he served in the Pacific during World War II. Andy enjoyed family, fishing, gardening, watching westerns and, casinos. He bowled and golfed until he was 86 years old. He received the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame honor in 2005 through the Lexington Bowling Association. He also enjoyed his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Denver Broncos. Andy believed in the American way. We will miss you Dad.
Richard is survived by a sister, Virginia Socorra of Kentucky, daughter Cindy (Roger) Reutlinger of Lexington, Nebraska; son Rick (Sherri) Anderson of Lincoln, Nebraska; and son Michael (Kathy) of Lathrop, Missouri: nine grandchildren, Chad (Stephanie) Reutlinger of Lexington, Nebraska; Troy (Maria) Reutlinger of Lexington, Nebraska; Corey Reutlinger of Lexington, Nebraska; Justin (Julia) Fry of Cross Lake, Minnesota; Jeremiah Brown of Lincoln, Nebraska;; Jennifer (Matt) Meyer of Minneapolis, Kansas; Jennifer (Ben) Kapelke of Snohomish, Washington; Justin James of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Renee (Jason) Krause of Ft. Collins, Colorado; twelve great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Ruth.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Reverend Philip Ehly officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral home in Lexington.
