Vera May Brummet, 95, of Lexington, Nebraska, took her last earthly breath and her first heavenly one on Thursday evening, July 11, 2013, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. Vera was born June 23, 1918, at Callaway, Nebraska to George and Minnie (Reed) Klein. She spent her younger years in the Callaway and Cozad areas before moving to the Lexington area in 1928, where she lived the remainder of her life. On June 29, 1935, she married Raymond Brummet, the love of her life. This union was blessed with two daughters, Geraldine and Janet; whom she called her “two darling daughters.” She loved being a homemaker and mother, and later a grandmother. After the girls were grown she worked for 18 years at Holen Floral until she fell and broke her hip. Ray preceded her in death on August 23, 1997, and later, after living in the same house for over 50 years, and because of health problems, she moved to Park Avenue Estates and later to Plum Creek Care Center. She received Christ as her savior in 1950 and soon after became a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Lexington. She was active in Sunday school, Bible School, ladies activities, Bible Studies, choir, etc. as long as her health permitted. She and Ray enjoyed traveling and camping and spent many happy days camping in various parks around the country, especially enjoying spending winters in Texas where they made many more friends. Surviving are her daughters Geraldine (Bill) Powell of Gordon, Nebraska; and, Janet Mills of Lexington, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Laura Haney of Denver, Colorado; Tim Dixon of Maywood, Nebraska; Mark (Ann) Mills of Pella, Iowa; and, Ross (Holli) Mills of Bellevue, Nebraska; great-grandchildren, Nate and Kyle Haney, Niki (John) Rice and Casey Dixon; Amanda VanLandingham; Eric, Stephen, Justin, Emily and William Mills; great-great-grandchildren, Shea and Brock VanSickle; sisters-in-law, Viva Klein and Mary Brummet; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ray; sisters, Velma Hammond and Annetta Marie Marsh; brothers, Lawrence and Robert Klein; great-grandson, Shawn Haney; son-in-law, Denzel Mills; and, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A Celebration of her Life will be held Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Lexington with Pastor Duane Russell officiating.
