Frederick W. “Bill” Slater, 70, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
Bill was born January 20, 1943, in Smith Center, Kansas to Rhuben and Alvrada (Lewis) Slater. He graduated high school from Kearney, Nebraska in 1961. Bill was united in marriage to Kay Reed on August 12, 1967, in Lexington, Nebraska. Two children were blessed to this marriage; Don and Kelly.
Bill’s working career included; Darr Packing, Monroe Auto, Valley Sales and Orthman Manufacturing, where he retired from in 2005. He was a welder by trade.
His interests were many, but among his favorite were woodworking, fishing, hunting, reading, finding treasures at garage sales, music, playing the guitar, gardening, but most especially, spending time with the grandkids.
Survivors include his loving wife Kay of nearly 46 years of Lexington, Nebraska; daughter, Kelly Slater and companion Harold Beam of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; four grandchildren; Timothy and Adam Beam of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; and, Brian (Jessica) Slater of Wenstchee, Washington; and, Elisabeth Slater of Chelan, Washington; brother-in-law, Dennis (Nancy) Reed of Lexington, Nebraska; also surviving are several siblings and their families. The family also wished to mention his wonderful Hospice volunteers who took such loving care of him through his sickness and death.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son, Don in 2007; and, mother-in-law, Velma Hammond.
It was Bill wishes that his body be cremated. The family has honored those wishes. There will be a private graveside service at a later date.
Memorials are suggested the Family for later designation.
