Marianne Fagot

Marianne Fagot, 93, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. She was born July 10, 1919, in Stanton, Ne, the daughter of Marie (Rieger) and Fred Slobodney. The family later moved to Kearney, Ne, where she attended high school, graduating in 1936, then attended Kearney State College where she earned a degree in accounting. She worked as an accountant for a law firm until her marriage to Lexingtonite, Harold “Jake” Jacobson at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington. Marianne and Jake adopted a newborn son on December 26, 1942, naming him John Harold Jacobson, and moved to Phoenix, AZ, with their new baby, where they remained for the duration of WWII. After the war they returned to Lexington, where they opened a plumbing business. After Jake’s death in 1953, Marianne married Joseph Fagot in 1954, and then worked alongside Joe at their liquor store for many years. She and Joe acquired a second residence in Pharr, Texas, where they spent many winters, until Joe’s death there in 1997. After that, Marianne continued to winter in Texas until her health forced her to remain in Lexington year round. Marianne loved music and was an accomplished violinist, organist, and saxophone player. Both her parents were musicians and taught her to play various instruments. It is said she played with the Kearney Symphony Orchestra as well as the family band at a very young age. Marianne had many talents, and enjoyed golf, sewing and doll making. She loved the lake and fishing. She was an excellent cook. Preceding her in death were her two husbands, Harold Jacobson and Joseph Fagot, her parents, her son, John H. Jacobson of Gillette, Wyoming, and step-son, Raymond Fagot of Lexington. She is survived by her sister, Catherine Lamb of Sparks, NV, her brother, Joe Slobodney of Escondido, CA, her step-daughter, LaDonna (Fagot) Bieker of Pahrump, NV, two daughters-in-law, Connie Fagot of Ord, NE, and Mary Ellen Jacobson of Gillette, WY, 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and multiple nieces and nephews. Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Reverend Neal Nollette, officiating. Her wishes to be cremated were honored, and burial will be at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Rd, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida, 32456 Reynolds-Love Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
