Max Donald Kitsmiller, 80, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. He was born July 31, 1932, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Max M. and Ruth A. (Roepke) Kitsmiller. Max moved to Lexington at the age of 8. He attended school and graduated from Lexington High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army Reserves. He then was called to active duty and served his country during the Korean Conflict, being honorably discharged January 11, 1957. Max was united in marriage to Marjorie A. Moore on May 22, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Arcadia, Nebraska. Three children were blessed to this marriage; Linda, Barbara and Mike. Max began his career as a lineman with Dawson Public Power in 1957, retiring in 1994. His second job, more like his hobby, was bartending at the Veteran’s Memorial Club, a job which he thoroughly enjoyed. He retired when the club closed in 2011, after 30 years. He enjoyed playing cards and reading. But his favorite pastime was teasing the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Survivors include his wife of 59 years; Marjorie of Lexington, Nebraska; son, Mike Kitsmiller of Lexington, Nebraska; daughters, Linda Linn and Barbara Rhone both of Lexington, Nebraska; brother, Joe (Barb) Kitsmiller of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister, Lois Rutt of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Gene Conrad of Lincoln, Nebraska; and, sister-in-law, Peg Kitsmiller of Lincoln, Nebraska; five grandchildren; Ryan Rhone of Lexington, Nebraska; Matt (Jackie) Wright of Lincoln, Nebraska; Riley (Lexi) Rhone of Lexington, Nebraska; Michele (Travis) Sund of Lexington, Nebraska and Megan (Clint) Stubbs of Pleasanton, Nebraska; 12 great-grandchildren, Alex, Max, Emmett, Addison, Harley, Rhiannon, Reno, Maci, Jack, Avry, Colton, and Bentley. Max was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger; sister, Barbara Conrad; brothers-in-law, James Moore & Ted Vose; sister-in-law, Joyce Moore; and sons-in-law, Bill Linn and Randy Rhone. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be Friday, June 21, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Reverend Tess Hufford officiating. Burial will be held prior to the memorial service at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department or the Donor’s Choice. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
