Opal Dorothy Henrietta Quitmeyer

Opal Dorothy Henrietta Quitmeyer, 90, of rural Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Callaway District Hospital. Opal was born April 9, 1923, on a farm in the Buffalo community to Frank and Bertha (Kopf) Quitmeyer. She received the sacrament of Holy Baptism on April 9, 1923, and reaffirmed those vows at her confirmation on May 16, 1937. She attended First Lutheran Parochial School and Lexington High School, graduating in 1941. She moved to California and worked as a telephone operator for 10 years, returning to Nebraska in 1952, to help her brother Marvin raise his 3 children. She was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church at Buffalo and an active member of the First Lutheran Ladies Aid. Opal enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, gardening, and large family get-togethers. She is survived by her sister, Nora Prange of Redding, California; nieces & nephews, David (Janet) Quitmeyer of Lexington, Nebraska; Eileen Sawyers of Omaha, Nebraska; Debbie (Greg) Kitch of Georgia; Tom (Andrea) Prange, Kathie (Steve) Sturzenacker, Sue (Steve) Bailey all of California; grandnieces & nephews; Katie (Slim) Reece of Harrison, Nebraska; Casey (Crystal) Quitmeyer of Lexington, Nebraska; Brooke (Ryan) Donovan of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Nick (Lindsey) Sawyers of Long Beach, California; and their families. Opal was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Marvin and wife, Ruby Quitmeyer; brother-in-law, Ernie Prange, and niece, Letty Quitmeyer. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Buffalo Lutheran Cemetery with Reverend Victor Rasmussen officiating. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Buffalo with Reverend Victor Rasmussen, officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Buffalo Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Hour. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
