Edith L. Martinez, 76, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at her home in Lincoln. She was born June 9, 1931, at Chadron, Nebraska, to J. Russell Batie and Carrol C. (Stroud) Batie. She attended schools in Chadron, Benkelman, Holdrege and Hay Springs. She graduated from high school in Hay Springs with the Class of 1948. She furthered her education by attending Chadron State Teachers College, the University of Nebraska Medical College and Denver University. She married Joseph F. Martinez on June 22, 1972. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, knitting and gardening. She did volunteer work for the Lincoln City Library and was once honored for being the “Outstanding Volunteer for the City”. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sister: Marilyn M. Kadlecek of Stratton, Nebraska Brother: James R. (Ruth) Batie of Doniphan, Nebraska Nine stepchildren, many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren Nieces: Carrol Kadlecek, Cynthia Roberts, Connie Kadlecek, Chandra Golder, Anne Kephart, Carrie Batie and Justine Batie. Nephews: Charles Kadlecek, Jr. and Craig Kadlecek as well as ten great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three aunts: Winona Doher, Eileen Biehl and Leta Batie. Many cousins, and friends, especially the Underdahl Family also survive her. Edith’s body was cremated. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 4, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery near Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. Scott Taylor officiating. Memorials will be given to the Lincoln City Libraries or the Donor’s Choice. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
