Howard D.Philpot, 71, of Overton, Nebraska, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at BryanLGH East Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He was born May 6, 1936, at Omaha, Nebraska, to Albert Charles and Margaret Esther (Priel) Philpot.
Howard grew up at Overton and graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1954. He then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
He returned to Overton where he farmed and ranched with his dad. He was united in marriage to Carole Coon, of Lexington, on September 23, 1961, at the United Methodist Church in Lexington. Two children were blessed to this union: Kimberly and Scott.
Howard was a member of the United Methodist Church in Overton as well as a past Board of Education member of rural Overton District #12 country school.
Howard enjoyed life, he was a wonderful father to his children, and when grandchildren came along, they were the light of his life. He was an avid NASCAR fan and liked attending the races whenever possible. He collected old cars, pickup trucks and tractors.
Survivors include his wife: Carole Philpot of Overton and Johnson Lake
Son and daughter-in-law: Scott and Dr. Keri Philpot of Kearney, Nebraska
Daughter and son-in-law: Dr. Kimberly van Noort and Dr. Dale Wasson of Arlington, TX
Five grandchildren: Hilary and Nathan van Noort and Katie, Gracie and Parker Philpot
Sister-in-law: Mary Jo Long of Denver, Colorado
Niece: Jessica Long of Denver, Colorado
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Stanley Charles
Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverends John Craig and Bonnie Linton-Hendrick co-officiating.
Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery at Overton, Nebraska
Visitation is Friday, April 4, 2008, from 4-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
