Phillip Araujo, 80, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at his home in Lexington surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 20, 1932, in Shelton, Nebraska to Marcus and Gertrude (Hernandez) Araujo. Phillip was united in marriage to Josephine Hernandez on December 17, 1951, in Littleton, Colorado. Six children were blessed to this marriage; Phillip, Jr., Cynthia, Peggy Jo, Jeffrey, Marty, and Christine. Always a hard worker, Phil worked for area Hay Mills, worked on the construction of the IBP plant in Lexington, and retired from Tyson Fresh Meats in Lexington. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Phil’s loves included being a Golden Glove Boxer as a young man, playing baseball, pool, cards, gardening and just tinkering around his place. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and collecting caps. His large family brought him much enjoyment and he loved having the family over for gatherings. Phil will be so very missed by all who knew and loved him. Phil is survived by his wife of 61 years; Josephine of Lexington, Nebraska; children, Phillip Araujo, Jr. of Lexington, Nebraska; Cynthia (Michael) Moats of Omaha, Nebraska; Peggy Jo Hubbard of Lexington, Nebraska; Jeffrey (Joanna) Araujo of North Platte, Nebraska; Marty (Jodi Phillips) Araujo of Lexington, Nebraska; and, Christine (Rafael) Villalpando of Lexington, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and, nine great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Rangel of Lexington, Nebraska; brothers, Paul (Jackie) of Omaha, Nebraska and, Pedro “Pete” (Helen) Araujo of Lexington, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Phil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cruz Araujo, Sr.; granddaughter, Deanna Davis, and brother-in-law, George Berumen. The family has chosen cremation and there will be no visitation or rosary service. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Reverend Jorge Canela officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Ann’s Cemetery at Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
