Walter Achterberg, 93, of Lexington, formerly of Oconto, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington, where he had been a resident since 1999.
He was born October 6, 1914, at Oconto, Nebraska, to Carl and Ida (Camin) Achterberg.
Walter farmed his entire life. He enjoyed the farm and taking care of his cats. He enjoyed going to family gatherings and once he entered the care home, he really liked playing Bingo.
He was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church at Buffalo.
Survivors include two brothers: Martin Achterberg of Lexington, Nebraska
Melvin Achterberg of Oconto, Nebraska
One sister-in-law: Mary Achterberg of Amherst, Nebraska
Two nieces and three nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Herman and Ben; three sisters, Martha Winters, Lena Hladky and Anna Biehr; one sister-in-law, Bonny Jean Achterberg and three brothers-in-law, Clay Winters, Joe Biehr and Frank Hladky.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church at Buffalo with Vicar Victor Rasmussen officiating.
Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery southwest of Oconto, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 17, 2008, 4-6 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska and one hour prior to services Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church at Buffalo or the Donor’s Choice.
