Ida Oma Kearney, 79, of Windsor, Colorado, formerly of Lexington, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at Windsor Health Care in Windsor.
She was born December 8, 1928, at Elwood, Nebraska, to Marvin and Susan (Lobdell) Norton.
Oma grew up in the Lexington area graduating from Lexington High School in 1947. She then attended St. Charles Beauty School in Denver, Colorado. Oma was the owner/operator of Kut&Kurl Beauty Shop in Lexington for many years.
On February 3, 1951, she married Michael M. “Mick” Kearney at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton, Nebraska. To This union one son was born: Martin. The couple made their home on a farm near Overton, where they lived until Mick’s death. Oma then resided at Plum Care Center in the assisted living part and then moved to Windsor, Colorado, to be near her half-sister, Suzette.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Overton as well as attending St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.
Ida loved to bowl and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son and his wife: Marty and Jean Kearney of Sparta, Tennessee
One half-brother: Milan Phelps of Holdrege, Nebraska
One half-sister and her husband: Suzette and Richard Deisch of Windsor, Colorado
Two sisters-in-law: Marge Kearney of Overton, Nebraska
Katie Bourn of Overton, Nebraska
Three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends
Oma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mick; a brother, Bob;two sisters, LoAnn Rader and Yvonne Auten.
Mass Of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton, Nebraska with Father Jose Chavez, officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Ann’s Cemetery at Lexington, Nebraska
Visitation will be held Monday, March 10, 2008, from 6-7 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton with Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton.
