Benjamin George McCammon

Ben McCammon, 89, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. He was born August 10, 1918, at Holdrege, Nebraska, to Warren Lee and Ruby Olive (McGeorge) McCammon. Ben grew up in the Bertrand area where he graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1936. He then entered the United States Navy on February 14, 1941, serving approximately 10 years in the Pacific Theater as well as in Korea. Upon his discharge, he returned to Lexington, where he worked 40 years as a plumber. First, with Jim Hitchmough, then Jones Plumbing and, finally, Leroy Anderson. Ben was united in marriage to Velma Banks on October 26, 1945, in Seattle, Washington. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lion’s Club. Ben enjoyed yard work, especially his beautiful roses, fishing, camping, and working on his family’s genealogy. Survivors include his wife: Velma McCammon of Lexington, Nebraska One brother: Dale (Dorothy) McCammon of Kearney, Nebraska Six nieces. Ben was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ann Remus and one nephew, Michael Remus. It was Ben’s desire his body be cremated. A Memorial Celebration will be held Friday, March 7, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Todd Karges officiating. Inurnment will be held prior to the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. There will be no visitation. Memorials are kindly suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the Donor’s Choice. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
