Verna A. Ohlmann, 92, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, at Lexington Regional Health Center.
She was born August 18, 1920, near Ayr, Nebraska, to Herman and Christine (Krueger) Plautz.
Verna grew up in the Ayr area and then moved to Shelton. She moved to Kearney, Nebraska in 1938, this is where she met her future husband, Otto. The couple was married on October 19, 1941, in Kearney. They were blessed with four children, Bill, Marilyn, Alan, and Cynthia.
In 1968, the family moved to Lexington. Verna went to work for her son, Dr. Bill Ohlmann at the Lexington Animal Clinic as the office manager. She retired in 2007, at the age of 87.
Verna was always very active in her church. She was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney, where she was past president of the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid and a Sunday school teacher. Upon their move to Lexington they joined Trinity Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday school and confirmation classes and was a member of the Altar Guild. Verna was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She loved to cook and her specialty was baking pies. Verna loved each member of her family and so enjoyed family get-togethers.
Verna is survived by her son; Bill (Jackie) Ohlmann of Lexington, Nebraska; daughters, Marilyn (Loren) Sinsel and Cynthia (Bill) Callahan both of Lexington, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren with one on the way, and two great-great-grandsons with one on the way; one sister, Lucille Fuss of Grand Island, Nebraska; and one sister-in-law, Elaine Plautz of Alda, Nebraska, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otto; one son, Alan; and two brothers, LaVerne and Carl Plautz.
Funeral Services will be Monday, January 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 20, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Parochial School in Kearney, Nebraska.
