Donald D. Barta, 81, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington.
Donald was born February 27, 1931, at Sumner, Nebraska, to Mike G. and Eva A. (Warner) Barta.
He was united in marriage to Helen Ropers on October 3, 1954, at Callaway Lutheran Church in Callaway, Nebraska. Five children were blessed to this marriage; Zelda, Roger, Glen, Gladys and Howard.
Donald loved to do gardening. He also loved to help mow yards and scoop snow around town. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years; Helen Barta of Lexington, Nebraska; five children; Zelda (Dennis) Wood of Duncan, Nebraska; Roger Barta of Lexington, Nebraska; Glen Barta of Mt. Washington, Kentucky; Gladys (Greg) Johnson of Columbus, Nebraska; and, Howard Barta of Leigh, Nebraska; also, two brothers, Harmon Barta of Lexington, Nebraska and Fritz Barta of Oregon; one sister, Dorothy (Marvin) Linder of Cozad, Nebraska; fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers; George, Ed, Frank, Lloyd and Chester; four sisters, Edna, Martha, Mildred and Leora; one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 11, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery at Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the Barta family for later designation.
