Inez Marie Cunningham, 94, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Eddyville and Lexington, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Tabitha Health Care in Lincoln, Nebraska.
She was born January 19, 1918, on the Brown family farm Northeast of Sumner, Nebraska, to Wray and Sophie (Snurr) Brown. She attended primary school at Victory Hill until moving to Park Valley in the 8th grade, where she attended upper Park Valley School. She then graduated from Sumner High School with the class of 1937. Following graduation, she did housekeeping for several families in the area.
Inez was married to John Matthew Cunningham on November 17, 1942. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1966. In 1967, Inez moved to Lexington where she worked at Lexington Community Hospital and did babysitting.
In 2005, Inez moved to Lincoln to be near family. She was always a faithful member of the catholic faith, having been a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Eddyville and St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.
Inez enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino and playing the one-armed bandits, crocheting and knitting. Her greatest joys were her family, especially the grandchildren. She will be so very missed.
Survivors include her children; son, William F. (Jolene) Cunningham of Omaha, Nebraska; daughters, Mary Ellen (Martin) Garcia of Garden Grove, California; Imogene (Guy) Richards of Omaha, Nebraska; and, Jo Ann Rebuck of Lincoln, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Alice Cunningham of Weeping Water, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Inez was preceded in death by her parents; husband, one daughter, Bridgid Agnes; one great- grandson, Taylor Heinrichs; four brothers, Russell, Charles, Ralph and Robert Brown and two sisters, Agnes Cunningham and Dawn Weaver.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 11, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Eddyville, Nebraska with Reverends Jose Chavez and Don O’Brien con-celebrating.
Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery at Eddyville.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013, from 6-7 p.m. with Wake Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Altar Society.
