Jerry Dale Mayo, 69, of Lexington, Nebraska, formerly of Overton, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
Jerry was born February 6, 1943, in Orleans, Nebraska, the second of seven children born to Leo and Esther Faye (Lyons) Mayo. He attended school in Orleans, Beatrice and Cambridge. It was while he was in Cambridge he met the love of his life, Donna Bailey. The couple was married August 28, 1961, in Oberlin, Kansas. This marriage was blessed with three daughters, Brenda, Ronda, and Tonya.
Jerry and Donna started their lives together in Red Cloud, Nebraska where Jerry worked as a mechanic. They then moved to Overton, Nebraska where Jerry was a truck driver and served on the Overton Volunteer Fire Department.
He had a love of fixing old cars, especially his “Wineooo”. He also loved his pet bulldogs that went everywhere with him. Jerry took pride in his grandchildren and helped them often. You could often find Jerry and his grandsons working in his shop on some project or another.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna Mayo of Lexington, Nebraska; three daughters, Brenda (Kevin) Peterson of Ogden, Utah, Ronda Mayo of Loomis, Nebraska; and, Tonya Mayo of Lexington, Nebraska; three brothers, Lonnie (Donna) Mayo of Kearney, Nebraska; Bob Mayo of LaCrosse, Kansas; and, Terry (Linda) Mayo of Ragan, Nebraska; one sister, Jeannie Pelkey and special friend, Bob Barnett of Norcatur, Kansas; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; special cousins, Becky and Charlotte Mayo; several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in infancy, Randy Carol; a sister, Carolyn Faye; uncle, Harold Mayo; aunt, Rouene Mayo, and his grandparents.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Overton Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Schwarz officiating.
Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 9, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.
