James Robert Puls

James Robert Puls, 69, of Elwood, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 4, 2013, at the Lexington Regional Health Center. He was born July 21, 1943, in McCook, Nebraska to Walter Henry and Ailene (Warnsing) Puls. He was a 1961 graduate of Elwood High School and continued his education at Chadron State College and Kearney State College. James then entered the United States Army on March 24, 1965, until being Honorably Discharged on March 23, 1971, serving in Vietnam. Upon his return from the service, he married Jacque Hartman Summers, in September of 1971 in Elwood. One son was born to this marriage, James David. His working years were spent in the construction and plumbing business and prior to his retirement he trucked. James loved spending time with his son and grandchildren, motocross racing and until the last couple years even enjoyed getting on a bike and going around the track himself. He was a member of a pool league and competed in the Cornhusker State Games where he won 3rd place in the Master Division, a fete he was very proud of. He was a member of the Elwood American Legion Post #290 and the VFW. Survivors include his son; James D. and wife Chris Puls of Lincoln, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Alysha and Aaron Puls both of Lincoln, Nebraska; stepchildren, Penny Kendall of Nashville, Tennessee; Patricia Summers of Lexington, Nebraska; Wesley Summers of Dallas, Texas, and Virginia Yoder of Boston, Massachusetts, as well as nine step-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Robinson of Kearney, Nebraska; nephews, Duane and Troy Sheldon, Marshall and Darren Robinson and niece, Tammie Robinson Runions. James was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be Friday, January 11, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood, Nebraska with Reverend Dave Dobbertien officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Burial with Military Honors conducted by the Elwood American Legion Post #290 and the Nebraska Army National Guard will be in the Elwood Cemetery at Elwood. Memorials are suggested to the Elwood American Legion Post #290. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
