Eva May Marie (Toomey) Hilker, 93, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
Eva was born May 18, 1919, to Salem and Mahala (Pierson) Toomey, north of Holbrook, Nebraska, and grew up south of Arapahoe, Nebraska, on a farm. She spent most of her young life there with the exception of a few years in Michigan.
She was united in marriage to Alfred Hilker on June 16, 1946, at Junction City, Kansas. Following their marriage they farmed the home place north of Holbrook for 8 years. They then moved to Washington State and Idaho for work until 1959, when they moved to Lexington. They built their home on south Washington Street where they enjoyed many wonderful years sharing their bountiful garden and the fruit from their fruit trees with friends and neighbors.
Eva enjoyed collecting dolls and being a part of the “Do Nothing” Club. She was also a faithful member of the Evangelical Free Church.
Eva is survived by several close nieces and nephews; as well as grand-nieces and grand-nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred in 2001; two infant children, Bruce Jon and Dawn Elaine; two brothers, Albert & August; and half-brothers and sisters, Ben, Mike, Simon, Mary, and Ada.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Evangelical Free Church in Lexington with Pastor Duane Russell officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Holbrook Cemetery in Holbrook, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to Evangelical Free Church or the Holbrook Cemetery Association.
