Leon E. “Jack” Jones, 92, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Lexington Regional Hospital in Lexington.
He was born January 4, 1920, in Wilsonville, Nebraska to Edward and Mary (Duling) Jones. Jack and his family moved to Chambers, Nebraska when he was thirteen years old.
Jack was a United States Army veteran who served his country during WWII. He served overseas in the European Campaign. He was honorably discharged on September 23, 1945.
Jack was united in marriage to Ethel Butts on October 13, 1945, in O’Neill, Nebraska. Four children were blessed to this marriage; Sharon, Larry, Vickey and Brad. The family moved to Lexington in 1951, when Jack went to work as a mechanic for the Chevy garage. He also worked for Dawson County Motors, the alfalfa mill and retired from COOP at the age of 73.
You could always find Jack busy in his workshop making holiday decorations for their home. He loved to decorate during Halloween and Christmas and many folks from the area enjoyed his decorating skills. Jack also loved to garden, read, but most especially being with his family.

Daughter: Vickey (Frank) Koehn of Johnson Lake, Nebraska
Brother: Bob (Neva) Jones of O’Neill, Nebraska
Sisters: Earleen (Tom) Moroney of Grand Island, Nebraska; Ruby Grubb of South Dakota; and Shirley Noble of South Sioux City, Nebraska.
One son-in-law: Harley Nelson of Lincoln, Nebraska
One daughter-in-law: Linda Jones of Elwood, Nebraska
Ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, with two on the way; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Jones; daughter, Sharon Nelson; sister, Esther Homolka; and granddaughter, Stacey Nelson.
Funeral Services will be Monday, November 5, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Lexington Christian Church in Lexington with John Jones, Lay Minister officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
There will be no public visitation, but the casket will be open prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department or the Donor’s Choice.
