Joe D. Sill, 92, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Mt. Clair Skilled Nursing Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
He was born May 29, 1915, at Eustis, Nebraska, to James H. and Effie C. (Cole) Sill.
Joe grew up in the Lexington area with a farming background. He was a graduate of Lexington High School with the class of 1932. He farmed and raised purebred hogs for 35 years prior to retiring.
He served his Country during WWII in the European Theater in the Army Quartermaster
35th Division, receiving the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service Ribbon. Joe was Honorably Discharged on October 15, 1945.
Joe was united in marriage to Helen Doughty on April 17, 1942, at San Luis Obispo, California. One son was blessed to this union, Jeffrey. The couple enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Arizona following their retirement.
Joe was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion, V.F.W. and was past president of the Spare Rib Club.

One son: Jeffrey Sill of Omaha, Nebraska
Two brothers-in-law: Bill (LaDonna) Doughty of Lexington, Nebraska
Gene Doughty of Lincoln, Nebraska
Nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Robert; one sister, Helen Jensen; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Memorial Services will be held Monday, December 31, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Lexington Christian Church with Pastor Jim Henry officiating.
Burial will be held prior to the memorial service at Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors for family members only.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation, the Lexington Public Schools Foundation or the Donor’s Choice.
