Esther M. Holbein, 96, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, December 21, 2007, at Golden Living Center in Cozad, Nebraska.
Esther was born on July 30, 1911, at Cozad, Nebraska, to Laurids and Anna (Viig) Hansen.
She graduated from beauty school and owned and operated a beauty salon with her sister in Cozad for a short period of time. On April 29, 1941, she married Edward Holbein. They were the parents of two boys, Dale and Dean. They farmed all their married life in the Cozad, Lexington, and Overton area. After Edward passed away in 1964, she moved to Lexington where she was employed at Tri-County Hospital and Holen Floral before she opened her own small flower shop, Grandma’s Korner. She loved raising little plants and was a good flower designer. After some health problems she moved to Park Avenue Estates in Lexington and later to Southview Manor in Cozad.
Esther mostly enjoyed drinking coffee with her friends, talking to her sister on the phone and spending time with her family.
Esther was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church between Cozad and Lexington. As a youngster some of her greatest memories were of going to church conventions and attending all of the activities at the church.
