Warren Russell Nixon, 55, of rural Oconto, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012, at his home on the Rockin’ N Ranch near Oconto, following a stroke he suffered 4½ years ago.
Warren was born September 24, 1956, at Hastings, Nebraska to Clifton Shelby and Dora Caroline (Frickey) Nixon. He started kindergarten in Alma, Nebraska, attended school in Schuyler and graduated from Columbus High School with the class of 1974. He then went onto continue his education at Kearney State College studying Architectual Engineering. He was united in marriage to Karen Zimmer on December 27, 1983, in Pueblo, Colorado. Two sons were blessed to this marriage; Shaun Warren and Nathaniel Clifton.
The couple made their home in Kearney, Nebraska where Warren worked for Blessing Construction. He then began his own construction company, Nixon Construction Company. He had a true talent for his profession. In 2000, the family moved to rural Oconto and Warren was hired on as Concrete Production Manager for Interstate Structures of Kearney. Throughout the years he was involved in many jobs throughout the Kearney area; such as, Tri-City Arena (now Viaero Event Center), Kearney Community Theater, the Buckle Warehouse Distribution Center (Hwy. 30), Brown Transfer, West Company and Baldwin Filters, to name a few. He was awarded the Best Parking Lot in the State of Nebraska for the Brown Transfer job as well as Pane’bello Restaurant in Kearney. He also poured the parking lot at Goodwill Industries in Lexington. Through his business he helped sponsor many youth baseball and rodeo programs.
He was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Buffalo where he served as Elder and Sunday School teacher.
Warren was a true outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping and cattle. Although, his true talent was practical jokes and pranks played on his family and fellow employees and employers. He had a keen sense of humor and the capacity to live life to the fullest. He will be so very missed.
