Robert Guy Mathews, II

Robert G. “Bob” Mathews, 69, of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, following a courageous fight with cancer. He was born July 4, 1943, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Robert Guy Mathews and Ruby (West) Mathews. Bob was a 1961 graduate of Lincoln Northeast High School and served his country in the Nebraska National Guard from 1961 to 1968. He was united in marriage to Judy Kirby in Lincoln; two children were born to this marriage, Theresa and Robert Jeffrey. The marriage ended in divorce and he was married to Yvonne Woehrle on June 7, 1975, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. He welcomed Yvonne’s daughter, Misty to this union and later lovingly adopted her. Bob worked construction and drove truck during his working career. The couple owned and operated Mathews Trucking for several years, an accident forced his retirement. He loved living at Johnson Lake, taking the kids and grandkids boating and tubing, fishing, camping, hunting, gambling and the Picnic Table Discussion Group. Bob had a great sense of humor and teasing the grandchildren was his favorite pastime. Bob and Yvonne were both instrumental in establishing the Johnson Lake EMS group. Survivors include his wife: Yvonne Mathews of Johnson Lake, Nebraska Three children: Terri (Doug) Bartzatt of Lincoln, NE; Jeff (Jen) Mathews of Lincoln, NE; Misty (Tim) Weber of Johnson Lake, NE. Nine grandchildren; Megan (Matt) Fredregill of Lincoln, NE; Sarah (Aaron) Fredregill of Lincoln, NE; Robin Mathews and fiancé J. Paul Younes of Kearney, NE; Adam Bartzatt of Lincoln, NE; Jonathan Weber of Johnson Lake, NE; Eric Bartzatt of Lincoln, NE; Tyler Mathews of Lincoln, NE; Jesse Mathews of Lincoln, NE; and, Amber Weber of Johnson Lake, NE. One great-granddaughter, Blair Fredregill of Lincoln, NE. One sister: Linda (Mick) Johnsen of Gilbert, Arizona One uncle: Martin West of Hutchinson, Kansas One aunt: Norma (Milton) Sharp of Lincoln, Nebraska Bob is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson. The family has honored Bob’s wishes that his body be cremated. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, August 6, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating.
