Joseph Kenneth “Kenny” Klein, 81, of Elwood, Nebraska, died Monday, July 23, 2012, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood.
He was born June 23, 1931, in Perkins County, Nebraska to Joseph and Josephine (Kukla) Klein. He was a 1949 graduate of Perkins County High School. Following school he farmed and then served his country in the United States Army. He was married to Linda McDonald in 1958, in Grant, Nebraska. He later married Mary Moore Dodson on June 10, 1978, at Lexington. Both marriages ended in divorce.
Kenny was a horse trainer by trade and a pen rider by vocation. He worked for Vaughn Rhone, Skinner-DeFilipps Cattle Company and Darr Feedlot prior to getting sick. He owned and operated his own leather working company, Klein’s Custom leather for many years.
Kenny loved training horses, working with leather, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include four sons: Steve (Ann) Klein of Paxton,NE; Billy Klein and Angie Miller of Gothenburg, NE; Nate (Candi) Klein of Holdrege, NE; and Ken Klein of Elwood, NE.
Three daughters: Rebecca Klein of Eddyville, NE; Kelly (Bernard) Smith of Elwood, NE; and Michelle (Kendall) Smith of Elwood, NE.
Twelve Grandchildren: Jessica, Jon, Zoey, Abby, Gabriella, Kaiden, Karsen, Samantha, Josephine, Wacey, Chantz and Sage.
Two great-grandchildren: Karmella and Jayden and one on the way.
Ten Step-grandchildren: Tess, Phillip, Jeremiah, Brandi, Clint, Billie, Kasey, Samantha, Mikaila & Ty, as well as many step-great-grandchildren.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; infant twin sister, Penelope; one grandson, Cashe, and step-granddaughter, Jessica.
Kenny’s body was cremated and there will be no visitation.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.
Inurnment will be that afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.
