Wynonna LaVonne Smith

May 26, 1918 — June 14, 2012

Wynonna LaVonne Myers Smith, 94, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Callaway Good Samaritan Center. Born in Callaway, Nebraska, May 26, 1918, she was the daughter of Troy and Ruth Maze Myers and was married for sixty-nine years to her best friend and the love of her life, Foster Smith, who preceded her in death. LaVonne graduated from Callaway High School and as a young adult was employed at the Callaway Grocery and Market. After marriage to Foster, she spent many years as a homemaker, wonderful mother, gardener, cook, quilter, and seamstress. Her husband, sons, their wives and children, and her extended family were the center of her life. When others were retiring, she went back to work outside the home at the Callaway Village Office where she enjoyed greeting friends and neighbors. With Foster, LaVonne was active in the community and from her early teen years was a member of the Callaway United Methodist Church. She served tirelessly in the church as Youth Fellowship Group Leader and as a memorial meal planner and server. LaVonne especially enjoyed her quilting group and Sorosis Study Club activites. LaVonne is survived by three sons; Steve (Mary) of Fort Collins, CO; Gene (Becky) of Lincoln, NE; and Tom (Pat) of Callaway, NE; two brothers, Bob (Bonnie) Myers and Chuck (Donna) Myers of Callaway; eight grandchildren, Dan (Michelle) Smith of Columbus, NE; Dave (Kim) Smith of Newton, KS; Brian (Amy) Smith, Jason (Teresa) Smith, and Jerall Smith all of Lincoln, NE; Brad Smith of Vancouver, BC; Liana (Jeff) Hrupek of Callaway; and Ryan (Megan) Smith of Kearney, NE; and nine great-grandchildren. LaVonne is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 16, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Callaway with Reverend Roger Gillming officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
