Gale Morgan Payton, age 80, of Encampment, Wyoming took his final flight to be with Jesus on May 5, 2012, at Encampment, WY.
He was born the youngest of nine children on Jan 8, 1932, in Callaway, Nebraska. As a youth he grew up on the old N.M. Morgan Homestead, just a half mile north of town. He loved building and flying model airplanes. He attended and graduated from Callaway High School in 1950. He married his wife Lila Chamberlin December 31,1952, in the Mason City, Nebraska, Methodist Church.
He was in the 6th Armored Division of the Army and was schooled and trained in Cooking. He served overseas 16 months in Germany. Gale learned to fly and received his Airplane and Engine Mechanical
license while in Miami Florida. For two years he worked as an airplane mechanic at the Miami Airport.
Gale and Lila returned to Callaway where they ranched and farmed for 10 years. His love for flying never left him and he continued to work at the Broken Bow Airport. He also learned carpentry skills and remodeled old homes.
In 1962, they moved to Reedsport, Oregon where Gale worked at the Coosbay Airport as a mechanic and as a carpenter, building houses and duplexes. They moved to Jersey Shore, Penn, in 1969, where they attended the New Tribes Mission Aviation program. Gale and Lila lived in Kearney, Nebraska before making their home of 35 years in Encampment, Wyoming. Gale loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking all over the mountains. He was an active member in Church and Rancher's Camp Meeting. Gale Built several houses in the Encampment area, worked at the sawmill, did refrigeration repair, and handyman repairs. He was a jack of all trades and could fix almost anything. Gale and Lila enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona, California and Callaway.
Gale is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Lillian Payton, his two sisters Elsie Payton and Emma Jean Fitch, and five brothers, Ira Payton, Kenney Payton, Bob Payton, Earl Payton, and Fred Payton. Daughter- in- law, Carla Payton and grandson, Curtis Payton.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, his sister Merle Paine, son Galen Kent Payton (Trish), grandson Zeth Payton (Amanda) and two great grandchildren Morgan Jo Payton and Easton Curtis Payton all of
Superior, Nebraska.
Daughter Jane Payton Boykin and grandchildren Payton Morgan Jacskon, Emma Jane Jackson, Lila BreeAnne Jackson, Harold Grant Jackson, Gale Wright Jackson, Nina Merlee Jackson, and
Harrison Wayne Jackson, all of Encampment, Wyoming.
Funeral Services will be Friday, May 11, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Callaway Community Church in Callaway, with Pastor Dean Haidle, officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be held in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012, from 5-7 at Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway.
Memorials are suggested to the Homeward Trail Bible Camp in Mason City, Nebraska.
