Gregory G. Witthuhn, 55, of Omaha, Nebraska, departed this life on Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Callaway Good Samaritan Home.
He was born December 24, 1956, in Callaway, Nebraska, to Wayne Witthuhn and Nadine Ellison Witthuhn. Greg was the fourth of five children. He grew upon the farm in the Callaway area. He attended Callaway Public Schools. As a youth he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and it affected his well-being for the rest of his life. In 1975, Greg graduated from Callaway High School. He participated in football and loved hunting with his friends and brothers. He especially enjoyed teasing and joking around.
During and after high school, Greg worked various farm jobs including for his uncle Elmo. He worked at the Callaway Elevators, Adams Land and Cattle, and Witthuhn Cedar Farms of Arnold. He later moved to Omaha and worked for Sieges Auto Parts Store. In 1988, Greg’s health deteriorated so that he could no longer work. He spent an enormous amount of time in and out of hospitals in the years to come. He was fortunate to have been the recipient of 2 kidney transplants. Greg eventually was stricken to reside at a care home.
Greg was faithfully dedicated to his Lord & Savior. He chose to spend his final days in the Callaway Good Samaritan Center and departed from this life as a result of renal failure and related complications.
Greg is survived by 3 brothers; Jerry and wife Beverly of Omaha; Bradley and wife Coeleen of Callaway; and Eric and wife Kyndra of Omaha.
He is also survived by nephews; Jeremy (Carrie) Witthuhn & children William, Julia, & Jesse of Parker, Colorado; Jasen (Michelle) Witthuhn & children Justin & Lexis of Omaha; and Levi Witthuhn of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by nieces, Kimberly (Lawrence) Stump & children Kamron Mowrey, Brianna Mowrey, and Addison Stump of Broken Bow; and Brandy (JP) Hanes of Omaha. He is survived by many Witthuhn and Ellison aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Diane; and his nephew Jered Witthuhn.
Funeral Services will be Friday, May 4, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Broken Bow, Nebraska by President Norman Sillivan.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 3, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at the Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway, Nebraska.
Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway.
