Vera P. Daleness, 72, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington.
She was born February 1, 1940, in Elbow Woods, North Dakota, to Walter and Emma (Cold Hand) Plenty Chief. Vera was a member of Arikara Sioux Tribe. She attended school in North Dakota and lived there until 1964. She was united in marriage to Arthur Daleness. Three children were blessed to this marriage; Fenton, Averelle & Dellarae.
In 1964, the family moved to Grand Island and in 1973, moved to Doniphan. In 1986, Vera settled in Lexington, Nebraska, where she resided until her passing. She spent most of her life being a homemaker and taking care of her family.
Vera enjoyed listening to music, making fried bread, traveling and taking care of her dogs. Family was very important to Vera and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Averelle and wife Patricia Daleness of Kearney, NE
One daughter: Dellarae Daleness of Lexington, NE
Twenty-Five year companion: Swede Roberts of Lexington, Nebraska
Ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, as well as special friends; Kathy Reeves and Darlene Brush of Lexington, NE.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur, four brothers and two sisters.
A Service will be held in North Dakota for Vera later this week and a Memorial Service will be held in Lexington at a later date. Vera will be buried in the Plenty Chief Family Cemetery at Garrison, North Dakota.
