Margaret Adelaide (Cronk) Wortman

Margaret A. Wortman, 86, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at South Lake Village in Lincoln, Nebraska. Margaret Cronk was born on September 9, 1925, in Page, Nebraska, to Fred and Carrie (Finch) Cronk. She graduated from Page High School in 1942 and worked for a time in Omaha, Nebraska. She married Edward H. Wortman in Ewing, Nebraska, on May 29, 1947. They farmed north of Neligh, Nebraska, from 1947 to 1960. Four children were born while living on the farm: Mike, Sue, Mark and Paul. In 1960, the family moved to Minden, Nebraska. In 1966, the family then moved to Lexington, Nebraska, where Margaret lived until the time of her death. She and Ed built, owned and operated the Minuteman Motel in Lexington. Later, she worked at the Lexington City Office. Margaret was an active member of the Catholic Church. Her many activities included serving as president of the Altar Society and counting the weekly Sunday offering. She was involved in many community activities including tutoring for elementary students, working at bloodmobiles, serving as an election official, and delivering for Meals on Wheels. Margaret was also a member of Soroptimists, American Legion Auxiliary, TOPS, VFW Auxiliary, and Lexington High School Citizen’s Advisory Council. Margaret was well-known for playing bridge multiple times each week, supporting Lexington Minuteman athletics, being a Husker fan, cheering for the Elkhorn Antler Football team, as well as supporting and telling stories of the many activities of her family. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Ed (April 27, 1982), parents, brother Frank, and sisters Mae Fetrow and Hazel Lorenz. She is survived by brother Warren Cronk of Page, Nebraska, son Mike (Kathy) of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughter Susan Millsap (Tom) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mark (Deb) of Elkhorn, and Paul (Sue) of Elkhorn. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Reverend Paul Colling officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 18, 2012, from 6-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be held Monday, March 19, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska. Margaret requested that memorials be sent to: The Nebraska Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Lexington, Lexington Volunteer Fire Department, or Elkhorn Booster Club Scholarship Fund.
