Irven L. Wood, 88, of Aurora, Nebraska, formerly of Lexington, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Irven was born in Buffalo, Nebraska on July 13, 1923, to Timothy and Emma (Gilmore) Wood. Irven’s early working years were spent hauling hay and well drilling. He was a self-taught welder. On April 24, 1944, Irvin enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on April 12, 1946. On July 15, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ruth E. Hagan in Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union five children were born. Ruth preceded him in death on January 10, 1993. His love of welding was spent at Zook’s Welding and later at Fasse Building & Supply Company, both in Cozad, Nebraska. Even after retirement, he worked part- time for Fasse Building & supply until 2005. Irven spent his entire life in Lexington until he moved to Aurora, Nebraska in 2007. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Lexington. Irven enjoyed fishing in his younger years and taking automobile rides on Sunday afternoons, usually having lunch along the way. Survivors include four sons: Leon & Deb of Fort Worth, Texas Randy & Glena of Loomis, Nebraska Daryl of Loomis, Nebraska Dennis & Zelda of Duncan, Nebraska One Daughter: Cheryl Carlson of York, Nebraska One Brother: Donald Wood of Sidney, Nebraska Sixteen grandchildren & forty-one great- grandchildren. Irvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Cecil, Boyd & Lester; one sister Alice Gamble, and one great-granddaughter. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral home in Lexington with Pastor Nathan Rhea officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Wood Family for later designation.
