Lyllis K. Veal, 83, of Kearney, Nebraska, died Saturday, February 25, 2012, at St. John’s Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.
She was born February 18, 1929 in Eddyville, Nebraska to James B. and Amelia C. (Specht) Kile. Lyllis grew up in Eddyville and graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1946. She then attended Kearney State College for one year.
Lyllis was united in marriage to Lyle E. Veal on May 25, 1947 in Kearney, Nebraska. Eight children were blessed to this marriage; Kaye, Bill, Lynne, Nancy, Cindy, Merry, Bob and Jim. The family moved to Elm Creek in 1947, to Davenport, Nebraska in 1952, and in 1962, moved to Overton, Nebraska.
Lyllis spent many years as the Postmaster at the Overton Post Office and was an active member of the Overton United Methodist Church, where she served on various church organizations and the Methodist Church Women for over 50 years.
She was past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, past queen of Daughters of the Nile, a member of the retired postal workers and the U.C.I.C. Extension Club, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the National Association of Postmasters of the United States.
Lyllis loved to read, bake and cook. Her greatest love was her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cindy Veal of Kearney, Nebraska
Merry & David Butler of Kearney, Nebraska
One brother: Art & Beverly Kile of Colorado Springs, Colorado
One sister: Mary Jane Houchin of Eddyville, Nebraska
Twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lyllis was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ben, Bob & James, one grandson, Aaron Smith and one son-in-law, Steven Bowie.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Overton United Methodist Church with Reverend Katherine Bullard officiating.
Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
